What to Do in Florida in January

GASPARILLA PIRATE FESTIVAL in TAMPA : Believe it or not Tampa has been invaded by a gang of costumed pirates every year since 1904. Scores of cut throat pirates will attack the city aboard the Jose Gasparilla with the jolly roger flying and cannons roaring along with their fleet of hundreds of small boats. Later in the day Captain Jose Gaspar and his Mystic Krewe captures the city and meets the crowds along the parade route to give out treasure and doubloons. Warning : a lot of rum is consumed!

ST AUGUSTINE NIGHT OF LIGHTS : St Augustine is Florida's (and America's) oldest city and was founded 445 years ago. Nights of Lights is a 7 week festival of the winter holidays. St Augustine's beautiful buildings are lit up with millions of white lights and make a fantastic display. There is a long programme of special events and activities and night tours of the illuminated ancient buildings and inns.
